OB is the study of what people do in an organisation and how their behaviour affects the organisation’s performance.

• This study gives knowledge about human behaviour, this knowledge can be applied in shaping the behaviour and taking various decisions related to policy making in human resource management.
• Helps in predicting behaviour of employee with other employee and with organization.
• All these data can be used in preparing a better group that can work effectively in an organization.

Nature
• It is a separate field of study not a discipline. Because it is not based on single theory
• It is an interdisciplinary approach. It includes knowledge from related disciplines like psychology, sociology, anthropology, etc.
• It is an applied science. It depends on various scientific researches and analysis to apply in organisation.
• A normative science. It deals with what is accepted by individuals and society engaged in an organisation.
• A humanistic and optimistic approach. It deals with thinking and feeling of human beings. People can work better if they are given proper environment. As a result, good for organization.
• The system approach is one that integrates all the variables, affecting organisational functioning. The systems approach has been developed by behavioural scientist to analyse human behaviour in view of their socio- psycological framework makes man a complex and the systems approach tries to study their complexity and find solution to it.
